Historically, Clermont's economy has been based on the transformation of forestry products.  Nowadays, the company Abitibi-Bowater runs a plant essentially devoted to the production of newsprint, employing a staff of 420 employees.  Its activities have contributed to Charlevoix's development and remain an influential driving force of the region.
